Doordarshan in North Eastern Region
The North-east comprises of eight states namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipour, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram and Sikkim. Over the years these States have progressed by leaps and bound and in this aspect Doordarshan has had to play a very constructive and resourceful part. The people of these states belonging to different communities and diverse socio-economic background have been benefited by Doordarshan service in the field of education, information and entertainment. There was a time when enrolling in institutions, reading newspapers and flocking to theater halls were inevitable for acquiring education, gathering information and fulfilling ones entertainment needs. But time has erased all these and today only by watching TV at home all the above mentioned needs are fulfilled.
There are 12 numbers of Studios and 125 numbers of transmitters in entire North-east Region while 12 numbers of Kendra along with one RLSC (DD North-East) are providing services to the people of North-east.
DD North East Channel is a composite satellite television service for the North Eastern States broadcasting programmes in Assamese, English and other languages and dialects of the North East. The programme mix includes entertainment, informative and educative programmes. The programmes are produced at Doordarshan studios in Guwahati, Agartala, Kohima, Imphal, Silchar, Dibrugarh, Tura, Aizwal, Itanagar, Shillong and Gangtok.
It provides media support to the socio-economic and cultural development of the country, educates the people about their rights and responsibilities as a citizen, promotes people’s awareness about health and sanitation, instills scientific temperament, helps communal harmony and national integration, and propagates universal brotherhood and world peace etc.
Doordarshan's health programme Kalyani and Agricultural programme along with other socio-economic and cultural issues have been very useful in creating public awareness and knowledge about these issues, which is very necessity for all round development of the people and the region.
